Year of Manufacture *: 2004 Engine Size and Code *: 1.4 BKG ( Optional ) ECU Type: Motronic MED 9.5.10 ( Optional ) Scanner Used: kts ( Optional) Fault Codes: P1033, P2096, P1070
Hi all Had the above vehicle in on friday for MOT and engine management light on. I did the MOT test first and it failed on the emissions. CO 0.99% HC 86ppm and lambda 0.97. I then fault coded the engine management got fault codes P1033 NOx sensor signal too small, P2096 oxygen sensor correction after cat.(bank 1) control limit exceeded(lean), P1070 NOx sensor heater (control signal) short to B+. The same fault codes came up about 2 months ago i cleared them then and they havent come back on till now. Ive cleared the fault codes again and its passed the emissions test now. Do these vehicles suffer from problems with these NOx sensor. Ive followed the Bosch Esi and the sensor seems to working o.k, apart from every now and again on a road test the signal from the rear oxygen sensor keeps going to 0 volts. The front sensor is reading at half throttle 1.5v at full throttle 1.0v and no throttle its between 3.0v and 4.0v these readings are from the road test. I have checked for exhaust leaks and everything is fine. Any advise would be most appreciated, sorry for the long post.
Jamie "Do these vehicles suffer from problems with these NOx sensor." Yes, i,v changed quite a few on this engine code, and other engine codes. Just put nox in the forum search and see what comes out. Check the connection,s first. Kev.
Hi Kev Thanks for the reply, should the sensor drop to 0 volts on a road test. I ve informed my customer that its more likely to be the sensor but said i need more testing of the sensor.
Jamie. "should the sensor drop to 0 volts on a road test." Does it sound likely ? I,m sure James Dillion of Tech Topics have covered Nox sensor in a technical bulletin,do you subscribe, if not you should and also to moto-tek (now tech club), lots of good info. Kev.

Hi Kev Thanks for the reply, renewed the NOx sensor and took it for a road test. Readings were alot different, WOT front sensor reading about 1.0v and rear sensor reading 1.0v and did not drop to 0v at all, unlike the old one. Let off the throttle and the front sensor reads betwen 3.0v and 4.0v and rear sensor reads 0v. Half throttle front sensor reads 1.5v and rear sensor reads 0.5v. So hopefully i think it will be o.k now. Thanks again for the advice, also i do not subscribe to tech topics but i am going to.
