Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Z12XE 2003 - Timing chain replacement question #

Engine Size and Code *: Z12XE

Timing chain noisy, clearly worn!

I have not replaced one of these before. I have the relevent "Haynes Book of Lies", the timing chain setting tools (from a head job)and Autodata suggests that the job should take 4-5 hours.

Is the Autodata time realistic? What nast surprises might I have to watch out for and what might I need in addition to the timing chain kit?

(Trying to work out a realistic estimate)

It shouldn't take that long and it all comes apart nicely usually.

Obviously fit the complete kit from Vauxhall, sometimes you need to change the big gasket that the chain cover bolts to but assess with it apart. It's not expensive so would be good practice to do anyway. The only critical point is getting the cam timing ring positioned correctly. Has to be perfect but if you have the setting kit this should be no problem.

You'll see a note in the kit mentioning knocking out the old washers from the old cam sprockets which need to be used when fitting the new type sprockets with the relevant size bolts.

Hi Paul, I do not know how much the kit is from Vauxhall but I use Dingbro, a parts factor. Complete kit including all gaskets required is about £80 and had no problems.
