Mercedes Benz A160 2000 Tiptronic - Goes into limp, codes P0100, P1840 & P1868 #

Year of Manufacture *: 2000
Engine Size and Code *: 1600
( Optional) Fault Codes: P0100, P1840, P1868

We know the maf is faulty. Car goes into Limp home and sticks in second gear. I have seen mentions of other models of mercedes whereby the car would not change gear but was the fault of the maf.Has anyone experienced this with an A class before we price a re-build on the maf only to then find the gearbox is faulty as they do not want to spend loads of money on it.

Hello Phil.

This car has 2 faults.

The AMM fault will not cause the gearbox to go into limp home.

The fault in the gearbox could be that solenoid, but in more cases it has been the valve body with integral control unit. These are about £1000 last time I bought one. On this older model they are ordered with /26 after the part number and come already programmed.

I am not sure if a second hand unit will work, never tried it.

I have had a customer that fitted a Second hand Gearbox on one of these things, It didn't work and when i talked to a couple of gearbox guys, They said that when they fit a used gearbox, They fit the Original Valve block to save programming. ( I am not sure if the used valve block will reprogram either but I wouldn't want to be the one that tries it )

The Customer Doesn't want to spend much on it. ???? Thats Really Wierd, Are you sure that you haven't got one of my customers there. ??
