Suzuki Ignis 1.5 2004 - Code P0420 CAT efficiency software update? #

Year of Manufacture *: 2004
Engine Size and Code *: 1.5 M25A

Hi all,

Suzuki Ignis, 4x4, 1.5 M25A, 2004.

P0420 cat efficiency code logs every 2 or 3 weeks. Usual scenario of emissions fine and all tests good. It has an original Cat which I Can’t fault. I suspect a software update may well fix it. The Suzuki dealer is a good distance away and is unable to tell me if an update will loosen the P0420 setting parameters or not.

Anyone any experience of this issue on this particular engine?

Hi,Alan,
Have seen this on a few 03 Avensis 1.6.Emissions check perfect,both sensors switching exactly the same.

Logging P0420 code after a few hundred miles,was told by Toyota Tech only cure was a new ECU,No update available to solve this issue.

I know this is a different vehicle but would it be possible its the same problem.

Thanks but that’s completely different to what I was asking. I was just looking for info on what the available update might cover rather than general info on the fault.

Alan can i ask what tests you have carried out to confirm tht the catalyst is OK?

Christy,has the new ecu got different software then? different parameters? I struggle to see that if both O2 sensor are switching the same at fast idle and logging P0420, that an ECU is the fix??

Yes of course you can ask, but why? I wasn’t looking for help to diagnose the fault so don’t think details of my testing are relevant to the actual subject of my post.

Hi Alan,
Email sent again.

Darren,
I dont know what the outcome of the Avensis was as both vechicles had Dealer warranty remaining.

They were brought in to check fault code, (P0420 )checked emissions and were perfect,I only graphed both sensors and both switching same,sent back to Dealer for repairs with code not cleared.

Darren, I hope you didn’t take offence, though I suspect you did. Anyone who knows me would tell you I am not known for being subtle, but I didn’t mean there to be any bad tone simply because I didn’t see any need for one. Text on a forum often suffers due to the lack of easily discernible expressive nuances. This is just one of those cases I think. If you read your first reply to me, that could easily fall into the same category though obviously not meant to. It was good of you to offer to help
