Vauxhall Meriva 1.6 2008 - Non start (waveforms) #

Hello Gents,

Have this Meriva that I now found out has been doing the rounds, Vehicle is non-start and we have no comms on the following modules... ECU, ABS, BCM (under bonnet), Immobiliser. Scoped the ECU and the CAN high and low is obviously corrupted (a bit like me)! Checked the physical layer at the ECU and reading was 7-8 ohms, disconnected the ABs module and it jumped back up to 120 ohms. Question is, are the terminating resistors housed between the engine ECU and the ABS or do I have another issue? Have only a Engine ECU wiring diagram to go off.

Thanks Simon,

Managed to get a wiring diagram for this vehicle and it seems that the network (GMLAN) for the ECU involve only the ABS, ECU, and BCM, must have had a bad connection on the ABS when reconnected the physical layer returned to normal i.e. 60 ohms, CAN signal voltage dropped to a more respectable voltage level and CAN positive looks ok; but CAN negative is still corrupted. Checked connections feeds and grounds so going to get ECU checked first as a HT IGN fault caused this problem, but I suspect the ABS as well as the signal doesn't improve with disconnection.

Update:
OK, we've replaced the ECU, BCM, key reader and key from a known good runner and have the engine running, however we have no comms with the ECU and ABS modules so we are replacing the ABS module so watch this space!

Aaah! I'm cracking up, changed the ABS module (ABS lamp now off) but still no comms to either ABS or engine ECU. Anyone know what fault code 179 MTA signal means? Oh yea, and I also have a fault code U2106 Transmission control module and it's not an auto!!!

Anyone got a gun so I can put myself out of this agony?

Hello gents,
Just had the car back in to try and rectify the "no comms" issue with ECU, ABS, and Immobiliser.
Scoped the DLC pin no's 6 & 14 and found no CAN high or low signals present, but did find the can high & low on pins 11 & 3. I thought at first I was looking at the plug the wrong way round but confirmed battery volts on pin 16, rechecked my data and both autodata and Vauxhall TIS agree that the can signals should be on 6 & 14. Is it possible that this DLC has been wired wrong?

Ho hum! Looks like Green and white CAN wires in DLC can be on 11 and 3 as well, tried changing and still no comms. Anybody know what pins in the DLC are used for diagnostics? I recon the CAN high and low must be used for live data, but I think that I'm at the end of my technical capabilities on this and will have to pull the plug.
