Rover 45 1.8 18K4F 2002 - Runs for 2 seconds - Unresolved #

Year of Manufacture *: 2002
Engine Size and Code *: 1796cc 18K4F
( Optional ) ECU Type: MEMS3
( Optional ) Scanner Used: S/O VERUS PRO

Have a loyal customer with the above vehicle displaying the same faults as recorded in the archives(runs for 2secs cuts out) which seems never to have been resolved
Just wondering if anyone had been able to cure the fault before I give up
s/h MEMS and engine ECU fitted c/locking working fine

So, Has it had a complete set fitted. ?

Engine Ecu, Lucas 5AS central locking/immo box and Lucas Remote all from the same vehicle. ?

Hi Gwyn,
We could do with more information on what you have checked and what you lose when it stops.
Does it lose ignition, injection, both, fuel presssure or power supply to ECU? What is the immo saying? Cat blocked?

Thanks for your replies
The problem started with COP failing blowing a 20 amp fuse
Replaced coil and fuse the car fine for while then stopped
Lost comms with Ecu,feeds to it all ok
Replaced engine Ecu,MEMS unit in centre console and remote fob all from the same vehicle
New fuel filter fitted pressure ok
New cat fitted 6 months ago
Will run on misted fuel otherwise it will run for 2 secs
Is there another MEMS unit in the system ???

Not sure about this model but earlier ones used to have an earth wire on bonnet slam panel above n/s headlight. Check to see if that's clean and intact.

I think it was for the earth circuit for ecu.

Do these have different flywheel codes from CKP sensor?

I seem to remember a local garage changing a flywheel when they did the clutch and it would only run for a couple of seconds afterwards as if it had an immobiliser fault. They found there was around four different CKP signals due to different positions of the missing teeth on the back of the flywheel.

As you say "you have changed all the engine Ecu, MEMS unit in centre console and remote fob all from the same vehicle" the flywheel may be the remaining item that does not match.

Unresolved customer scrapped the car.
Good news was that he paid all the labour and parts and still a good customer
