Vauxhall Zafira 1.8 2002 - Cuts out after 10 minutes running #

Year of Manufacture *: 02
Engine Size and Code *: Z18XE/Z18XE1 (See Note)

As above, cuts out after 5 minutes running. Ok from cold start.

(Autodata suggests this one is a Z18XE, Using the scan tool suggests it is an Z18XE1)

Loss of electrical supply to injectors/Fuel pump.

Typical of relay failure

Now, Autodata insists that the fuel pump relay is the pink (?) one in the relay box in the engine bay next to the battery. But this doesn't appear to be the correct one.

Is there another relay for the fuel pump hidden somewhere?

Looking at Vauxhall tis,there are 2 pink/purple relays in the box by the bulkhead.One is efi system relay and the other is the fuel pump.My experience with these is that it is more likely to be an ecu fault ,where the switched earth from the relay is lost.You can prove this by putting in your own earthing system to test.

It was difficult to confirm because the engine would run a long time before cutting out. But yes, I think that is the one.

ECU off to Actronics I think.

(I could have bodged it, but there are safety issues and, in any case, the failure of the switched earth suggests that the ecu is failing and that it might only be a matter of time before one of the other common issues rears its head)
