I didn't think it was intended as a criticism but your description of bedlam and its visitors somewhat fits with how I view these things. There's an element of perverse entertainment in watching what outrageous or stupid thing the person will do or say next, when really they probably need help and it's more properly viewed as symptoms of a social disease. At least it has value in preparing for the kind of crazy turn public discourse is likely to take next, I suppose. Libs of Tiktok compilation videos had the same kind of car crash fascination for me for a while... When power gets involved it's fair game, though, even if 'only' the cultural power of woke politics.
