“The current crisis erupted on Friday when UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said it had terminated contracts with “several” employees and ordered an investigation after Israel provided information alleging they played a role in the assault”
So Israel, just found likely guilty of Genocide, conveniently comes up with a diversionary tactic to slur those who are risking their lives trying to pick up the pieces literally of Israel’s likely genocidal war crimes No evidence here presented to support these allegations. . . UNRWA has 30,000 agents (I call them this as I don't know if they're employees, volunteers, or working for other organisations under an umbrella term). So because of unsubstantiated allegations against just 12 individuals by a criminally warring party, the most bellicose powers in the west and Israel’s backers, decide to hamper relief efforts in Gaza, which we now have confirmed by the ICJ is likely suffering a genocidal assault by Israel.

It might be worth pointing out and reminding our politicians and media that this UN agency has had more people killed and seriously injured in this genocidal assault on Gaza by Israel than in any other war in their history. (since 1948) more then 100 UN workers have perished and 27 seriously wounded up to November 2023 - we are not told how many family members of these aid workers were also killed and injured. There’s a graph showing this on the page I link to here:

So now it is confirmed, if there were any doubt before, that the moral vacuum in the US and UK is so deep that it amounts to an evil., that’s stains us all, just as Nazism stained the whole of German society, whether we protest or not. That on the basis of unsubstantiated allegations against a tiny minority of people working and risking their lives for the stricken people of Gaza, they would immediately withhold funding for the UNRWA and deprive the dying and shattered and starving men, women and children of Gaza relief in their extremis, whilst at the same time supplying the very weapons that are the cause.of their terror and anguish. .
“ former immigration minister Robert Jenrick said he was “pleased” Britain had agreed to pause support for UNRWA, adding that “the UK has been too blasé about who we have funded and for what purpose. That needs to end now.” Is this what other politicians think without saying so? A neat excuse to inflict yet more misery? No thought that if he doesn’t like the UNRWA, the UK should fund and send its own relief workers - just let the Palestinians die. Or better still, stop supporting and sanction Israel, and getting the US to do the same. I don’t know what to say about this sort of thinkingThe English language has a lexicon bigger than any other language in the world, but I am presently unable to find the appropriate words.
But when I think about it, perhaps this is nothing other than a contemporary and graphic illustration of what Britain has been capable of and culpable of throughout its colonial history, and though I remain deeply ashamed and angry as a Brit, as a westerner, perhaps I shouldn't be surprised. Not surprised then, but in the deepest despair.
