As to "what it is", as I recall you're the dude who visited once and decided that Edinburgh was the most Scottish of cities...and was terrified because you mistook some noisy Edinburgh public schoolboys going to the rugger in kilts for the barbaric hordes descending on your genteel persons for rape and pillage.

Forgive me for not taking your idea of " what it is" seriously in the slightest. Its evident that what you "know" about Scotland could be written postage stamp and seems to consist of mere absurdities salted with prejudice.

If you want to move beyond that to what we are talking about, go look up James Hutton: otherwise the "father of Geology"...Doubtless most unfortunately from your perspective, a Scotsman who made the observations which lead to the creation of the subject of Geology in Scotland.
