Hey, we want the public on our side. What can we do? Hey let's show complete and utter contempt for a national monument. That should do it.
Or, hey, we need some exciting photos in order to get the public on our side. Let's show some complete and utter contempt for a national monument...
Sit the fuck down and work out what your goal is. Two possible goals here: 1) Get the gov to stop investment in fossil fuels 2) get the public to stop burning fossil fuels.
What will showing contempt for Stonehenge achieve? Will it put pressure on gov to stop burning? Absolutely not. It will, in fact, strengthen their position because now they will have a load of angry members of the public on their side. Will it get the public to stop burning fossil fuels? Will it heck. It won't make a blind bit of difference.
And what is the connection between Stonehenge and fossil fuels, anyway? I don't see any. And if there were that would be the first thing you would do - show the connection.
As you say, riddled with police spies and agent provocateurs, most likely.
I'm amazed and appalled to see so many people on here excited by this action. Easy to see who's been on actions and who hasn't.
Have people learnt nothing from London Greenpeace versus McDonalds? That's not Greenpeace with the ship, by the way. These guys were very careful anarchists who discovered when McDonalds took them to court that some of their members were actually working for McDonalds while attending Greenpeace meetings.
Expect police. And use your goddamn brain - ask yourself what will this achieve. If I was in a meeting, planning an action and noted the enthusiasm for these stupid actions by so many members I would immediately think police!
Which, looking at the support for this self-destructive action on the Lifeboat rather suggests some of our buddies are cops! Blimey! To be expected, though.
Nicely put, Fionn.
