I'm wondering whether I'm the only person who suspects that due process may have gone missing in action in order to deal "firmly" with those accused of participating in the recent riots. It seems really odd that newspapers have been reporting for years on problems in the justice system caused by a lack of experienced prosecutors in the CPS resulting in cases not coming to court for years. And was it not only a month or so ago that Starmer himself said that prisons were so over-crowded it was necessary to release a large number of convicted criminals early?

So, it seems strange we have had people arrested, charged, prosecuted and gaoled within a matter of days. The CPS seemingly had no problems in ponying-up all the lawyers needed and gaol cells miraculously opened up. I find myself wondering whether those prosecuted were threatened - plead guilty or we'll ruin you and your families and whether defence solicitors were advised that being zealous in doing their jobs might be a bad career move.
