Matt missed some key opportunities.

He should have asked whether non-jews are allowed to buy land in Israel.

He should have made clear that apartheid was the targeted removal of the native population by settlers to separate (tribal) homelands based on ethnicity, whereby they lost their S. African citizenship. It could not be more clear, and its they key point about Israel.

The Israeli is a very good car salesman though: He has a very comprehensive counter-narrative, and when it inevitably falls apart he knows exactly how to become faux-enraged and go ad hominem (“you! are just like Roger Waters”) as in: “I polish the tires and you just waste my time” then threaten to walk out (“I could have already sold this car 100 times, the deal is off”:-). I think Matt should have let him walk out.
