Israel is currently breaking Palestinian bones with sticks and stones, and worse, but protesters are attacking innocent but proud Jews like Shama and Stephen Fry with words that must hurt their feelings unbearably


Simon Schama must have written a good book on some specialist subject at some point, otherwise his prestige is inexplicable. His popular book on British History were cukt and paste kings-and-queens stuff, greatly inferior to things done in the same line by Winston Churchill

His specialised subject as a public historian has lately been his own Jewishness. Whatever the topic he will bring it in. Like many who lived through Jeremy Corbyn'n pogroms he thinks of himself as a proxy Holocaust survivor, He feels the pain of Hitlers victims so intensely that he wants us to feel his pain in turn. The Holocaust seems to him an unbearably neglected subject - no doubt from veiled antisemitic motives.

It no doubt cause Simon and Stephen Fry - another lump of blubbering self regard - yet more inner pain to hear the word "genocide" bandied about by people who can have no right to it
