Sodexo Prison Services faced formal accusations of mistreating hunger-striking
prisoners affiliated with Palestine Action at HMP Bronzefield.
The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre has invited Sodexo to respond to
several serious claims regarding the treatment of hunger strikers, including:
At HMP Bronzefield, Amu Gib's food refusal was reportedly not logged for nine
days, delaying required medical treatment. In another instance, a striker
experiencing chest pains and shaking limbs was allegedly ignored by a nurse and
told to wait for the next shift.
Prison staff at Bronzefield reportedly refused to call an ambulance for Qesser
Zuhrah for 17 hours despite severe symptoms; medical care was only provided
after a 17-hour standoff involving protesters outside the prison.
Strikers were allegedly held incommunicado while in the hospital, preventing
contact with legal counsel or family.
Supporters alleged the use of "non-association orders" to isolate strikers and
"physical violence by guards" when prisoners tried to comfort one another.
Activists claimed they were called "terrorists" by staff and had religious
items, such as keffiyehs used as hijabs, forcibly removed.
