When I wer't lad, you'd think Egypt was swimming in gold, not gold measured in swimming pools.
I actually got to see the Tutankhamun exhibit in the London Museum in 1972.
Back then, we could never afford holidays so had the odd day out in London, catching the rattler from Kettering station to St Pancras.
We had the morning sightseeing and then headed down to the museum and joined in a cue...had no warning about the wait, it wasn't the era of the internet.
Anyway, we waited 3 hours to get in.
It was only later that we realised that we had just walked in at a corner of the que about half way through and no one said nowt.
We would not have done that if we had known.
Otherwise it might have been 6-8 hours wait.
I remember the exhibits to this day, they had arranged them in a walk through process, dimly lit apart from the glass cases containing the treasure.
It was really very moving, even at that age and it still gets me now, such personal objects.
No one spoke, it was so silent...glad I didn't know about the "curse" back then or I am sure it would have got me!
