This... stuff, is the Guardian in nutshell. It makes one want to weep, that people with such little real understanding of the subjects they are paid to pontificate about are given so much space to do it in.
A bit of self-awareness and reflection would flash in neon letters that Moore knows next to nothing about Freud or Marx, and even less about their complex historic roles, even less about their contemporary significance, and what's left after all isn't very much worth bothering about and that's wrong too.
But it's telling and miserable to think that she chooses Freud instead of Marx. Marx the great historian and fact man, the great analyser of the world around him, political economy, hard facts that cannot be ignored, on which he built his ideas about changing the world for something better and saner... instead Moore jumps back and embraces the great magician of the inner world of workings of the human heart and brain, which turned into a cult in the United States, the cult of psycho-analysis. It's all in the mind you see, not out there in the harsh socio-economic realities of mega-capitalism unchained.
