The propaganda offensive directed against Venezuela is comparable to the ones used in the run-up to the West's attacks on Iraq, Libya and Syria. Let's hope Venezuela isn't next in line.

The big problem, for us, is that way too many people, the soft left and liberals, believe way too much of what appears in our media about Venezuela and are not inclined to question our 'free and fair' media, especially the Guardian and the BBC and similiar organisations in other countries.

This is because to do so would mean accepting that these media platforms might be guilty of lying to us and paving the way for war aimed at toppling the government of a sovereign country that's not only not attacking us, but actually selling us oil. This would mean we were guilty of a huge international crime, a war of aggression. At this stage we're 'only' guilty of attempting to help a coup topple the government!

It's a serious thing to understand and accept that our media lying about Venezuela, hiding unpleasant facts about what we are doing there and exaggerating conditions with no real explanation about why Venezuela has problems. Our media bascially wants us to believe that the 'regime' in Venezuela is glad that so many ordinary people are suffering, because the 'regime' is 'evil', just like they were in Iraq, Libya and Syria.

Getting the soft left and liberals to accept our malign influence and the role of propaganda, isn't easy, because to do so would mean that our political system was rotten to the core and our most cherished news institutions guilty of pushing propaganda designed to groom public opinion for intervention and possibly war with Venezuela based on a raft of lies, which, if accepted, would mean that we don't live in a democracy either, not jus t the people of Venezuela.
