Savory tells how his misguided research (a couple of decades ago) led him to advise southern African governments to cull elephants in order to save the grasslands set aside in S Africa's many nat, which is the size as Wales. As a child I remember being horrified at army helicopters flying over elephant herds, with sharp-shooters taking out entire herds from the air "because we had to, in order to save the land", etcetera... So I found Savory's admission of his mistake refreshing and was curious as to the rest of his input. His thinking is currently under discussion in desertified southern African hemisphere. I wondered if northerners had heard his theory?
