Ironically, this powerless love - which is cowardice and counterfeit, which is selfish rather than giving, which is sentimental and anemic and therefore doomed to utter failure when tested - is the very source of ressentiment. And so this cheap love feeds something far more dangerous than mere sentimentality and anemia: vengeful, spiteful, pathological hunger for power that will stop at nothing - slander, deception and even murder - to achieve it.
