I saw mention in the article of racist ignorance, which about sums up the smirking kids build the wall chant. But, overall, the issue is only second fold racism, primarily it's colonialism at its best, and best taught by the Brits as it propagated into the colonies of America, Australia, ns and elsewhere. Colonialism believes the west to be superior, more to the point that others can't help but be enriched by the forced presence of western thought, culture, and violence. In the end, their lives will be better for it. It's why when that doesn't happen, westerners tend to take no responsibility for the carnage, or the refugees, or anything. If something went wrong, well it wasn't our fault, how could it be? We are the pinnacle of human development and enlightenment, after all! They must have corrupted it. Colonialism is way worse than racism, because at least racists are aware of their thoughts and actions (they hate). Colonialists live in an impervious bubble which bounces around (the me at this point) flattening foreigners as those inside wine and dine and congratulate themselves on their amazingly civilised world. As an Australian, moved to the uk, I've grown up with it seeing both sides (in both countries). As a Canadian no doubt it's obvious too; I imagine you know At least a few indigenous Canadians.
