One would think that the attacks on Williamson, Walker and the film, would be a gift for Corbyn. A golden opportunity for him to assert himself and his principles and defend freedom of speech and fundamental democratic values, against gagging and censorship of ideas. Fundamentally Corbyn and those around him have never really wanted to confront and challenge the way politics are framed in the UK. One does this by mobilising the great swathes of people who don't trust the political system, the politicians and the media. Trump and his advisors understood this and capitalised on it with great success. But Corbyn seems strangely unwilling to follow this example and meekly throws away one of the few cards at his disposal, because his principles don't seemingly allow him to 'play the game' well, or even understand the nature of the game he's part of whether he likes it or not. I get the feeling that if he was from a different social class, an aristocrat for example, he'd find it far easier to win by breaking the rules because that's his 'right' and always has been. The sad truth is that Corbyn is way too petty bourgeois to be an effective leader.
