I wish to God that Corbyn would assert his authority and put Watson firmly in his place. The trouble is Watson not only has support from a substantial section of the PLP but also a separate mandate as he was directly elected by Labour members (and, at that time, £3 supporters) in 2015 at the same time as Corbyn. People had a choice of five right-wingers at a time when most people didn't expect Corbyn to win. A Deputy Leadership contest, as I understand it, can only be triggered if a certain percentage of MPs (is it 15 or 20%) want it and an alternative candidate can be found who is willing to stand. I can't see Corbyn or his core supporters in Parliament being willing or able to to go down this path. They seem married to the illusion that they can somehow hold the Parliamentary Party together. He has more in common with the TINGERS but has obviously decided to stay where he can do maximum damage to the party he claims to care about. I can't see the fat cuckoo in the nest being evicted any time soon, unfortunately.
