'Why would any individual member of the armed forces know anything about the damage to the country or people they were fighting' - er, because they're the ones on the front line of that damage so I imagine they would know about it better than anyone else (apart from the victims of course). I guess it might be harder to join the dots for people at one remove from the battlefield, eg drone operators or those in support roles, but for plenty of refuseniks like Joe Glenton or Mike Prysner the truth of the role they were playing became apparent very quickly when they were actually put in those situations. I agree there is a Con, and that patriotism, loyalty and obedience are inculcated into brainwashed troops, along with being taught how to kill. But isn't there a moral obligation for them to see through and start exposing those lies, all the more so if they're clearly being used to commit atrocities? I think, as in all walks of life, there are plenty who see through the propaganda and either choose to believe it, imagine they're changing the system from within, or cynically go along with it anyway because they want the rewards, such as they are. cheers, I
