It's hard to overestimate the colossal damage Brexit has done to the UK's standing in Europe, the damage to the brand. This isn't 'cool Britania' rather it's 'fool Britania'! Yesterday on the BBC World Service, the delightful and always cheerful BBC host, she's so programmed to smile and laugh... had a German foreign corispondent in the studio, from Deutche Welle. Anyway, the German woman stunned the BBC host by refusing to make witty remarks or jokes, but instead demolished the British arguments about Brexit. She even apologised for being so blunt, but at this stage it was important to tell the truth about Brexit and the political climate in the UK. Germans, their role, as expected at the BBC, is one of quite humbleness and it's simply not allowed for a German to openly criticise the political culture in the UK. That's the 'subtext', don't they know they lost the war? The woman from Germany thought this Brexit thing would have a longterm effet on how people regarded the UK and its institutions, its' role and moral standing. Whatever happened to common sense, pragmatism and compromise, rationlity, and realism? What happening is the meltdown of close to everything foreigners thought the knew about the UK. The UK's reputation and brand has been damaged massively, and repairing that self-inflicted damage is gonna take a long, long, time.
