Hi Tomski, collapse preparedness is a big topic and you can get stuck going down lots of different rabbit-holes. No guarantees that you'll make the right choices either. My personal approach has been to learn real world skills that don't depend on lots of money and/or the availability of cheap energy via petrol, electricity or the machinery that's just useless, rusting furniture without it. Also getting into community somehow cos humans can't survive on their own or just in nuclear family units (I'd argue that weakness is precisely why the atomised family has been held up as the ideal over the last 100+ years) - conflict resolution, ability to discuss and get things done as a group, solidarity and other such hugely (purposefully) undervalued abilities. Dmitry Orlov says that producing homebrew alcohol suddenly became very important during the soviet collapse that he witnessed ('reinventing collapse' and other books). But yes, a bolt-hole far away from big cities might come in handy if you can afford it!

Anyway, it's not just about our survival here in the affluent west (I'm assuming that's where you are too). The sooner the system begins to slide past the point of no return the better the over all prospects for people in the 3rd world (those not trapped in city slums, that is) and for all the nonhuman life that civilisation is busy extirpating. But maybe that's easier for me to say not having kids of my own...

    cheers and good luck!
    I
