You've got to let us kill some of them Archived Message

Always the same media biases in operation when it comes to this story.

When a rocket (supposedly) fired by Hamas hit a house in a settlement it was front and centre at the fraudian; top story, massive prominence on the top of their "front page" online.

Now Israel kills three teeneages (among four dead) and shoots 40 others, the story is relegated to a minor "one square" down in the "Around the World" section, essentially "below the fold" in an online setting.

Then there's the usual array of sleight of language all through the article:

Hamas officials said the group had agreed to prevent protesters approaching the fence and men in orange vests at the main encampments had worked to keep people back. In exchange, Israel would not fire on people who remained far from the frontier. Israel did not confirm that a deal had been reached but less live fire was heard than at previous rallies.

Immediately framing the problem as "protesters approaching the fence" instead of soldiers being desperately keen to murder people wihtout a second thought. I like the "In exchange..." line; in exchange for you not walking vaguely in our direction we will not slaughter you. Big of you that.

"Less live fire was heard than at previous rallies".

Yay! Three cheers for the only democracy in the middle east. They aren't shooting at unarmed protesters, medics, women and children AS MUCH AS BEFORE.

The first fatality of the day, Muhammad Sa’ad, 20, was hit in the head by shrapnel caused by Israeli fire before dawn at an overnight protests before the main demonstration, Gaza’s health ministry said. Two 17-year-olds boys were shot dead later in the day, it said, while Belal al-Najjar, 17, later succumbed to wounds sustained in east Gaza Strip.

Just look at the full house of passive voice apologies for murder in that paragraph:

"was hit in the head by shrapnel caused by Israeli fire" (could you try to distance the cause and effect any more there?, "were shot dead" (perhaps you could tell us by whom), "later succumbed to wounds sustained in east Gaza" (not wounds inflicted by Israeli fire).

The Israeli army fired teargas canisters into the air. Fewer protesters appeared to be rushing towards the fence, as they had during previous events.

Once again, it's their own fault, rushing unarmed towards a massive concrete wall. What do they expect?

During that period, Israeli soldiers have killed 194 people – including three medics, two journalists and 40 children – and wounded close to 29,000 others. A quarter of all those injured – more than 7,000 people – had been shot with live ammunition, according to UN figures. More than 120 limb amputations have been carried out.

One member of the Israeli security forces has been killed and six others were injured in incidents related to the “Great March of Return”. Israel has dismissed the protests as a cover by militants to attack the fence, troops behind it and Israeli communities further back.

These paragraphs are buried way down the piece, just to make sure casual browsers don't stumble across them by accident.

Protests as "cover to attack the fence...". Can you provide one single example of such an attack? Didn't think so.

The difference in coverage depending on who is being attacked is so clear and obvious and, sadly, seems to be getting worse. If anyone with any profile dares to suggest this though they will be submerged under a hail of anti-semitism outrage. Rachel Riley will block you on twitter in a heartbeat.

    Disgusting as always.
