If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart? That quote doesn't quite do it for me, RG. We know that there most certainly are 'evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds' - what's more, they've been doing so for hundreds of years (at a minimum) - - and not 'insidiously'; they do it in an outrageously brazen manner because they ensure that there are layers of 'fall guys' to take the rap. I don't accept the stuff about things residing in 'the heart of every human being' - strictly speaking the heart is just an essential organ - a body's fuel pump. I don't believe that good/evil in people is an organic binary condition - I reckon those are nurtured characteristics - - I believe that normal healthy people reared on good examples will behave good and those raised with evil examples will display evil behaviour - though virtuous people can quite easily be corrupted. and vice versa (perhaps with lesser ease). It's obvious that the prime evil doers in this world for the large part lurk in shadows - they have created institutions (governments / media etc) to do their bidding and take the flak for the evil that goes down in the world - most people don't realise that - most people think the Hitlers / Bushes / Blairs etc are the prime evil - they are not - they are merely caretakers and enablers of the over-arching evil. The tricky, rather than 'simple', challenge is not identifying them - we know who they are (the elite finance / military /industrial psychopaths) - the challenge is convincing a critical mass that an evil force is abroad and if left to its own devises it will ultimately destroy the world -- but whenever this is pointed out legions of shilly gatekeepers set-too with the typically derisive comments about 'conspiracy theories' and whatnot. That said, even if the prime evil doers were unequivocally exposed, how we would go about 'destroy[ing] them' is another matter altogether.
