I would put forward an argument (likely already posted somewhere) that a no-deal brexit is, like Russia's sanctions, a kind of ground-shaking shock that could be good for the UK in terms of being a net producer in some fashion, as opposed to a net consumer. Is the UK essentially self-sufficient in food and water? Embarrassed to say I don't know, but why is this kind of question considered to be a joke? Because Brits inherently deserve more than, minimally, just food and water, and some heat in the winter? Because many Brits have not had to start again from scratch at some point in their lives? In other countries, vast swathes of people do this, from migrant laborers, to the generally mobile of US population, to professional emigrees, etc. The major problem in the above, might be that Britain is not so good at making friends around the world as Russia is: Even at this late stage, the UK is still making enemies. Some kind of a realignment that brings the UK more in line with its economic size seems to have been in the pipeline for a long time. If subsumation into the EU doesn't cut it, then a small, independent, largely self-sufficient economy about the size of N. Korea's, seems only a more stark and motivating version of the same thing. Just some passing thoughts :-)
