Oh bugger! This is getting to be a familiar pattern when you live long enough. I keep coming back to Archived Message

what Dmitry Orlov said recently: that it simply doesn't matter who is president in the US, since the power will remain in the same - non-presidential - hands as it was before (I paraphrase). This clip has such a familiar flavour: young, highly personable contender starts wowing increasing number of audiences with rather vague but stirring rhetoric about 'taking back power' and 'changing everything fundamentally' (remember that one?), but without any nitty-gritty details offered about how, precisely, the immense, rooted power of the self-perpetuating power mafias in the empire are to be overcome, other than by a mass popular uprising (which idea is never canvassed; utterly taboo); and how their hit-machine is to be prevented from doing what it did to the Kennedy brothers, in the case of impudent contenders who just won't be bought, steered, or frightened into conforming with the overground puppet show of 'presidential actions'... And then, of course, there's the entrenched duopoly which ensures that only one Dem and one Rebub candidate has any real chance of winning, not least because they're the only people - apart from billionaire barbarians like Trump - who are allowed to get at the immense amounts of cash it takes to create the huge marketing-and-advertising orgy which has now been made de rigueur for serious candidates. Good luck, Tulsi, but I don't think you're going to change anything fundamentally. (Oh how wonderful to be proved decisively wrong in a couple of years! I'll try to hang on to see...)
