It always mystifies me, the way people can be highly educated, high-IQ, well-informed (after a fashion) and yet still be utter prats in the positions they favour. None so blind... By acute contrast, Sharmine comes across as hugely well-informed (in a meaningful sense), obviously on the side of the angels, and not committed to any abstruse political doctrine where she has to twist reality to make it force-fit. A real breath of fresh air. It was also starkly obvious in the conversation on the Off-G comment-tail that you too, by virtue of having been in Syria and having spoken to many there, and seen things for yourself, simply knew what you were speaking about from direct, sharp-end, nitty-gritty experience, whilst Proyect thought he knew, because he'd got by heart the 'right' narratives.
