Very fair-minded interview with Guaido spokesperson by Emily Maitlis Archived Message

Last night on Newsnight Emily interviewed a spokeswoman for Guaido who listed all the reasons why Maduro should go and why "President" Guaido (as she called him) was the legitimate leader of Venezuela. Lie after lie was trotted out with Emily mostly nodding and not asking any serious questions. This was followed by another segment in which a spokesperson for Maduro was allowed the same length of time to answer and rebut these points and present an alternative viewpoint. Except of course there was no second segment. There was no spokesperson for Maduro. There was no alternative viewpoint presented. It was a straightforward and blatant propaganda exercise with no attempt to strike a balance. And this is the BBC's "flagship" news and current affairs programme. This is BBC journalism. It's breath-taking really, when you think about it, how they no longer make the faintest attempt to disguise their bias. It's as if they don't care any more. We can say what we like and get away with it, they almost boast, and no one can stop us. We make our own reality. We control the narrative.

    Incredible.
