I was wondering about this: “As far as the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention opinion is concerned, this is not binding on this court,” she declared, asserting the UN’s ruling was “underpinned by misconceptions of fact and law.” In the US, ratified international treaties are "the supreme law of the land" trumping all state and federal laws. Is there anything analogous to the supremacy clause of the US constitution in UK law? It's hard to believe that a UN ruling can be so cavalierly set aside by a court in a UN member state without violating some legal obligation.
