It's been a long journey, almost like one is trapped inside a gigantic maze.

I remember, years and years ago, aruging with people at the Guardian and New Statesmen, platforms where I assumed (wrongly!) that Assange would, at the very least, receive fair and honest treatement; that it was surely important and significant, that the case against him was so weak, that he hadn't even been charged with anything. If the Swedish case was strong, wouldn't he have been charged with... something?

I got the answer that the allegations against him were so serious, that they amounted to charges in themselves! I found these answers profoundly disturbing.

I continued, what possible new questions could the Swedes possibly come up with in yet another interview, that would materially change anything and lead to charges being brought against Assange? He was hardly going to admit his guilt was he? What 'magic' questions could the Swedes have thought up over the years that he hadn't been confronted with already, during the Swedish interviews that had already taken place?

It seemed to me that the legal experts at the Guardian and the New Statesman, didn't really care about any of this at all. Almost as if they didn't care as long as Assange was found guilty of something. It all reeked of a very political process, where the law was being used and manipulated in order to crush a dissident by any means necessary. But of course 'liberals' can not address this possibility because to do so would require them to acknowledge unpleasant truths about the character of our democracy and judicial system, that contradicts everything they say they believe in and know.
