It's demented. All these mountaineering companies vying for their clients' cash with promises of a summit. Unless they all coordinate the number of climbers on certain days, there are bound to be bottlenecks on the ridges and Hillary Step that put people's lives at risk. If they are coordinating, it's criminal to let so many people go at once. If they're not coordinating, it's criminal neglect. I imagine some of the smaller companies arte fly-by-night. Either way it's insane, and very sad that something so remote and wild has become a mecca for wealthy tourists...a metaphor for western hubris.
