And when new evidence emerges, Assange's sentence will be suddenly reduced enabling him to face rape charges in Sweden Exactly. I don't see the 50 week sentence as any barrier to a timely, pre-Corbyn extradition to Sweden, should one be needed. The law is just a weapon for these people, and very malleable depending on circumstances. It would probably be easier to commute that sentence than to renege on the legal requirements for extradition to the US where Assange faces 170 years in prison. In any case, to me this is the most convincing explanation of Sweden once again making itself and its justice system into an international laughing stock and re-opening - for the third time - its phoney investigations into Assange. Obviously something serious is at stake for the US in this.
