When Chomsky met Andrew Marr he didn't give the impression that he thought that Marr was a hypocrit involved in a dastardly conspiracy. In fact he stated the opposite view. That Marr actually believed what he was saying, but, that if he believed something else, he wouldn't be sitting where he was sitting and wouldn't occupy his role at the BBC. Basically the same argument goes for Viner and Rusbridger. This is how societies like ours work, not by open oppression and force, but by a carefully controlled process of assimilation and socialisation, where the 'right' kinds of thought are taught and rewarded, whilst rebellion is frowned upon and punished in various ways. Anyway, almost all journalism is now merely entertainment and fiction. In essence our media functions as the public relations wing of the corporate state and that's about it. It's clear that Assange makes these people feel... uncomfortable, the mirror he holds up to society reflects an image they don't like. It's way to confrontational. There characterisation of Assange is remarkable similiar in tone and language to that employed against heretics and blasfemers thougout history, people who dared to challenge the orthodoxies of the day.
