My hunch, M. is that people here are either too drugged by over-prosperity to care, or too JAMmed to Archived Message

muster the energy. In case you haven't come across it, M, JAM is the local acronym from 'just about managing'; a widespread condition amongst the British commons these days. I know lots of people in this situation; all of them pulling in lots more income than me, but unlike me, carrying responsibility loads far heavier, and in the event too heavy for their - actually-depressed - incomes. Things are so bad for some of my younger family-members that I have to subsidise them continually, out of a mere pension. But I'm dead lucky to have fallen - quite by chance - into a most atypical living set-up, where my living expenses are minimal, and I actually have spare money for my nearest and dearest. Weird situation! Anyway, whatever the cause, the temperature of radical activism here in Britain is pretty low at the moment; and the gics are getting away with ever more bare-faced outright illegalities - witness the effrontery of their treatment of Julian, and the way they're railroading the law to give him to the US gulag. Part of a thrust to force onto us a whole range of policies which no-one voted for and which a majority of us don't want.
