Up to 1936, the regime gave the boss class what it wanted, destruction of the democratic Reichstag, destruction of unions and political parties and a massive boost to the rearmament that has begun before Hitler became chancellor. After 1936, much of the boss class wanted rearmament slowed down to limit the recurrent balance of payments crises and the overheating of the economy. Hitler sacked Schacht and accelerated rearmament. Good for the heavy industry lobby, bad for light metals and export trades. From 1937 to 1942 the regime still had support from the heavy industry lobby but after that everyone began to discreetly manoeuvre to keep their snouts in the trough of a post-war (defeated Germany) regime.
