"Life and Fate" really is the "War and Peace" of WWII as it often likened to. It's an incredible novel and its reputation will only continue to grow given it's only relatively recently been available in English. The translation and release of "Stalingrad" can only add to that. I have a copy and it's next on my massive 'to read' list but I think I will move it somewhere near the top.

The thread in "Life and Fate" that ends in the gas chamber is one of the few times I have been close to stunned by a work of fiction and had to stop reading and just sit quietly, recovering. It's also one of the few books I've bought copies of to give to people.
