Anyone with an opinion online the establishment didn't like became a wicked "Cybernat" and this usually led onto an artificial feeding frenzy by the BBC, Corporate press Tories & the Labour party (Yes indeed). This would lead to calls by all the above for condemnation by variously, Alex Salmond / Nicola Sturgeon/ the SNP and demands they "bring to heel" their vicious social media "supporters" who were "out of control" and whose actions of course the Politicians marked for the hit were apparently responsible for. Usually the supposed culprits/ sock puppets turned out not to even be members, but that didn't matter because the "hit" had been made and nobody would report the fact anyway, having of course moved on to the next "Cybernat" episode & consequent Condemnathon. Its a low level media form of the war of attrition which you can run to create a nasty "background colour" and of course it has the advantage of providing endless amounts of cheap copy for the media out of nothing at all.
