Assange name mentioned at UK govt conference: Amal Clooney skates near edge, gets burned Archived Message Posted by margo on July 11, 2019, 10:21 am Yesterday, in her speech at the UK Govt's "Defend Media Freedom" international conference, Clooney dared to mention Assange's name. She was very, very timid and only mentioned his name once, which was way too little as his highly-significant case warranted a separate session on the formal two-day agenda. Nevertheless, she mentioned his name once... in a way that indicated she classed him among journalists, not as a 'traitorous spy' as the American would prefer. She had to mention his name, really, as she was Assange's lawyer at one stage and is still linked with Doughty Chambers which handles Assange's affairs. Assange's primary lawyer Jennifer Robinson is not only a colleague of Clooney's, she's a personal friend who was present at Amal's wedding in Venice. Amal is also intelligent enough to know she really had to mention that name (once at least, even if only to cover her own behind) because Asssange's name needed to be mentioned at an important conference headed "Defend Media Freedom". Now, less than 24 hours after mentioning He Who Shall Not Be Mentioned At A Media Conference, Amal Clooney is being trashed by the Daily Mail, fed overnight by an "exclusive" leak that reveals Clooney is the traitor that advised Assange to apply for an Ecuadorian diplomatic post - as an 'underhand' tactic to be able to leave the UK, etc, etc. Below-the-line comments are vicious.
