Calling her 'Greta Geldorf' is obviously implying she's a sell-out - for travelling on an expensive boat. I try to lace my natural cynicism with a modicum of empathy. Greta may be naive if she thinks that she can save the world by appealing to the better nature of the elites. They will flatter her, turning her into a celebrity, they will seek to co-opt and manipulate her, neutralise her. If they can make her seem their tool, that will alienate her grassroots support and undermine her message. But her essential message is a powerful one and more than her. If we do not fundamentally change her ways, we are screwed. I hope she has people around her who keep her feet on the ground. I agree we should give her a break. The constant cynical attitude, though tempting - and essential in our approach to power relations -, is just too easy and shouldn't be applied everywhere.
