If one looks at the map Greenland is much closer to the United States compared to Denmark. The US is gradually overtaking Canada so Greenland looks like the next natural step for the United States. Greenland is in the backyard and in 'their' hemisphere. Greenland's economic and military significnace is growing, as the ice melts, and what the US sets out to get, it gets. Trump is the leader or emperor of today's western empire and he acts like it. His supporters like that, up to a point, and taking over Greenland is a peaceful way to expand the empire, with potentially massive benefits for the United States and the population of Greenland. Instead of being a backwater far from Denmark it would become an important part of the North American part of the empire.
