There are DEFRA Chief Scientific Advisers and also Government Chief Scientific Advisers. Boyd's predecessor at DEFRA was Prof Robert Watson. He was also the Director General and was paid £135,000 - £139,999 for 4 days per week. I imagine Boyd received the same or similar. He also has his tenure at St Andrews of course to which he returns presumably. He is leaving DEFRA today after six years in the post! Vallance, ex Glaxo Smith Kline, is a Government Scientific Adviser. 'The role is less well-paid than Vallance’s present position. His base salary at GlaxoSmithKline is £780,000 (US$1.02 million), but the science-adviser job was advertised in the salary range of £160,000–£180,000. These salaries are staggeringly large. We are always told how badly off those in the public sector are. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/62343/high-earners-pay_0.csv/preview Ref DEFRA, I saw that a Dimbleby scion, Henry, had been given a job on their board as lead non executive director. He's a foodie and restaurateur. Tamara Finkelstein, sister of Daniel, the Times scribbler, is in DEFRA too as the Permanent Secretary. It's not what you know in Great Britain 2019 but who you know. I see that Gove is giving DEFRA a shake up, and not similar to the results of his efforts in education hopefully, ie academies and free schools. https://www.civilserviceworld.com/articles/news/gove-unveils-post-brexit-defra-agencies-review
