So one risks opening up a faultline between the Scottish and the English courts. Just what one needs on top of everything else! I think the Supreme Court will follow the Scottish lead and declare Johnson's actions unlawful. This will be the effective end of his time as PM. What happens then? The court will side with the parliamentary majority, not the PM. I think he's finished. Given the balance of interests and power in the UK, I think the 'best solution' would be a return to the status quo anti, but getting there is the difficult part. How does one reverse the result of the referendum without upsetting the Brexiteers too much? It's risky. Probably there's a slight majority now to remain, especially among the young. Scotland voted remain as did Northern Ireland. Attempting to force the Scotts to leave will lead to the break-up of the United Kingdom. One can't have a country where the ruling elite and business, the people with real power, not just votes, want to remain in the EU, whilst half the people, the ones with the least real power, want to leave the EU. For the UK to function properly there has to be a degree of agreement, or acquiesence between the people and the ruling elite, a form of 'social contract.' That's what Brexit destroyed, and the difficult task ahead is to re-design it before Brexit can do any more damage to politics and society.
