In some ways this board reminds me of the country as a whole, the splits and polarisation along almost 'religious' lines and worst of all, probably for next to nothing of practical value. It's a shame really. Brexit and three years, and years more to come, for no practical benefit for the vast majority of the population. What an absurd waste of time and resources.
In the old days, when there was still a 'working class' and a middle class these big political blocks emerged, Labour and the Conservatives. For almost a century they were the only game in town they mirrored society and the voting system FPTP nurtured this system.
But things have changed, as has the economy and the entire social system linked to it. A fragmented economy and social structure, with a vanishing 'working class' is now, I believe, being reflected by the fragmentation of the entire political system and the old rigid party based system. I'm not sure that the stability will ever return. Brexit and the last three years are but a symptom of a far deeper malaise affecting the UK's politics.
