You may be over-stating your case with the claim that either Greta is a messiah (if that is what you normally mean), or that she (read also her parents) is not aware that the usual leaches will be attaching themselves to the 'cause'. Of course they will, and they (the parents) are aware of pitfalls. It's also a safe bet that if changes are to be made under capitalist banner, the leaches are there to make dosh (preferably hand over fist). Not even sure if Greta (or her parents) is aware of the political nuances viz capitalism. They may think in terms of ‘it doesn’t matter what colour the cat is, if it catches the mice’ : ). You keep saying that Greta stems from the elite. Not really sure what you mean, although you did contrast her with a poor person from the third world or similar, elsewhere. I would consider that as a strawman. If, otoh, you mean she is a part of the elite, because she is using their dosh to get the message out, it is analysable, and I'll get to that later. To clarify, Greta's parents may not be dirt poor, nevertheless it does seem they have to earn their bread in the usual meritocratic rather than plutocratic way (this seems possible ish in Sweden, I think). They work. Unless, of course, you and I have different definitions of 'elite'. Relativity and all that. Following from the fact that Greta is not a messiah, it makes sense to use the elite resources to get the message out as she did. I surmise this from the video where her father discussed this issue. I see Greta as a catalyst. So, the subject will be out in the open, vulnerable to all the subversive elements ... but, consider, many people are talking, which a great. To digress, Monbiot plants trees. Sure, a small step in a right direction, but not achieving the overall objective, which would be completely changing our societies without burning fossil fuel and associated programmes, and certainly not under capitalist banner (they can stay awhile … (here I differ from the usual gang … K and ps)). We had discussions on the TLN board regarding the merits of tree planting a while back, from memory, with the TLN punters that seemed well versed in the subject. The conclusion was that it is not THE solution (the tree planting by itself … which I think is easy-peasy (in theory, and if you can), plant trees everywhere where it works ecologically, blah). Hence, and because, we are all collectively aware of the green-wash tactics and possibly some viable solutions, we know what could lead the conversation astray. This conversation will get more urgent as the climatic events evolve, I suspect . Must dash, best
