...because its misleading. 'worried about immigration' certainly isn't to do with concern about the well being of foreign immigrants but negativity about foreigners: thus "xenophobic ": a fear or hostility concerning foreigners. Whether that fear or xenophobia was justified or not and whether that immigration was the EU's fault are separate questions. On the former, the corporate media & the Brexit campaign strove to not only confirm fear and hostility to foreigners was justified but as above, expanded on them in a fear campaign in which they directly lied to the public. As I've posted before on the latter matter of proposed blame, two thirds of UK immigration was from either the ex colonies or otherwise non=EU elsewhere: this two thirds were directly thus a matter of UK gov. policy and not not the EU. On the other third, the UK government itself promoted the idea of fast inclusion of ex Soviet eastern European states into the EU and indeed made special provision for Eastern Europeans to have early access to the UK. The influx of Easter Europeans was therefore a consequence of a long standing UK foreign policy of containment concerning the Russian sphere of influence harking back to the British Imperial age than it was to do with EU policy. |
