The BBC gets to grips... Archived Message

Below the dramatic reportage the BBC online article 'How do you stop flooding?' explains with photos and diagrams...

But how can flooding be prevented or alleviated? Here are some of the main methods used in the UK.

Loads of guff follows under these headings:-

    Flood barriers
    Natural flood management
    Sustainable drainage
    Dredging rivers
How much is spent on flood defences?

... and right at the arse end:

Why are we seeing so many floods?
Flooding has always been an occasional part of life in such areas, but experts warn that climate change is worsening the situation.

In early 2019, Environment Agency chairwoman Anna Boyd said that some communities might even have to move entirely. She suggested that spending on flood management would need to be raised to £1bn a year.

"We can't win a war against water by building away climate change with infinitely high flood defences," she said.

Apart from that vague hint in the very last quote nowhere in this piece is there any mention of the need for anyone to actually let the current emergency or the prospect of disaster affect their behaviour or their thinking. Business as usual folks, fly on holiday, drive to jazz club... the government can just spend more from some budget or other on flood defences.
